DENR LEADS MANGROVE TREE PLANTING ON ARBOR DAY

Mogpog, Marinduque – In celebration of the Arbor Day and Philippine Environmental Month, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Marinduque headed by PENR Officer Imelda M. Diaz conducted mangrove planting at Brgy. Capayang, Mogpog, Marinduque on June 25, 2019.

This is in accordance with Proclamation No. 643, series of 2004 in which Arbor Day in the Philippines has been institutionalized to be observed every 25th of June throughout the nation by planting trees and ornamental plants and other relevant activities. Moreover, the Month of June of each year is declared as the Philippine Environment Month by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 237 signed in 1998.

Mangroves were planted in the shoreline of Marinduque to provide shelter and breeding area of fish and other aquatic resources. It also prevent soil erosion by stabilizing the sediments with their tangled root system and provide protection during strong typhoon and flooding.

A total of four hundred thirty five (435) propagules of Bakauan-babae (Rhizophora mucrunata) were planted along the shoreline of Capayang, Mogpog. mgpmaniquiz

DENR PENRO MARINDUQUE CONDUCTS CULMINATING EVENT FOR THE MONTH OF THE OCEAN, COINCIDES WITH A KICK-OFF CEREMONY FOR PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENT MONTH 2019

On June 4, 2019, the Provincial Environment Natural Resources-Marinduque headed by OIC-PENRO Imelda M. Diaz, conducted a Culminating Event for the “Month of the Ocean” and Kick-off Ceremony for “Philippine Environment Month 2019”. The activity aims to recognize the efforts of all participating Coastal Barangays and various partners in the simultaneous coastal clean-up held on May 18, 2019 which was participated by 3,635 individuals and to capacitate the Barangay Officials on ENR Laws. It was held at the Freedom Eco-Adventure Park in Boac, Marinduque and successfully concluded with the presence of the guests from Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), Provincial Government- Environment Natural Resources Office (PGEnro) and Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers (MENROs) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and active participation of Barangay Officials  from Eighty-Three (83) Coastal Barangays in Marinduque.

Lectures on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, Ecological Solid Waste Management, Clean Water Act and Water Code of the Philippines were provided to the participants during the first part of the program. The purpose of IEC Campaign is to encourage the participating barangays to perform their important role as DENR partners in the enforcement of ENR laws and to intensify protection and sustainable management of the environment and natural resources.

Awarding of the winning barangays took place in the afternoon wherein top three (3) Barangays were chosen for the awards: Bgy. Libtangin of Gasan for “Best Barangay”; Bgy. Poblacion IV of Buenavista for 2nd runner-up and Bgy. Mompong of Sta. Cruz for 3rd runner-up. The criteria were based on Compliance to Ecological Solid Waste Management and participation in the Coastal Clean-Up for the Month of the Ocean.

Three (3) consolation prizes were also given to Brgy. Balanacan, Mogpog; Brgy. Poblacion, Torrijos and Brgy. Pili, Boac. Likewise, a Certificate of Appreciation and token was also awarded to “Pawikan Rescuers”.

MOGPOG, Marinduque — In celebration of the 2022 Philippine Environment Month with the theme ‘Aksyon para sa Natatanging Mundo’ and 35th DENR Anniversary, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources (PENRO)-Marinduque organized a Bike and Tree Planting Activity with the theme ‘Padyak para sa Kalikasan, Magtanim para sa Kinabukasan’ on Friday, June 10.

The bike activity kicked off at the Marinduque Provincial Sports Complex in Boac, going to Tabi-Buliasnin-Maligaya-Nangka-Laon service roads up to the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP) area in Barangay Capayang, Mogpog where the tree planting activity took place.

Present in the said event were different biker groups, national government agencies, provincial government, local government units, civil society organizations, non-government organizations, and advocates involved in supporting environmental activities.

Imelda Diaz, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer said that one of the objectives of the event is to encourage participation of various stakeholders in rehabilitating and protecting the ecosystem through eco-friendly means of transportation, responsible ecotourism, reforestation and other good practices.
