LAWIN TEAM CONDUCTS ANTI-ILLEGAL LOGGING OPERATIONS DURING THE 33RD DENR's DAY CELEBRATION

During the Celebration of the 33rd Anniversary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the DENR-PENRO-Marinduque LAWIN patrollers have conducted their regular patrolling activities within the conservation areas and mangrove forest located at Barangay Bonliw and Kay Duke, Torrijos, Marinduque. The areas are considered part of the remaining natural forest being maintained and protected in the province, consisting a total area of 15,077 hectares (12,409 closed forest and 2,668 hectares mangrove forest).

The said mangrove forests which are mostly cancelled or abandoned, fishponds were rehabilitated/planted with Bakawan species, under the National Greening Program in CY 2015 and constantly being monitored and patrolled by Forest Rangers as pre-emptive measures against illegal wood poaching, charcoal making, and illegal occupancy threats. The LAWIN patrollers coordinated with concerned Local Barangay Officials to assist DENR in protecting the said valuable resources which serve as life support system of surrounding communities especially those engaged in fishing activity.
