TURN-OVER OF BIO-WASTE SHREDDERS TO LGUS IN THE PROVINCE OF MARINDUQUE

BOAC, Marinduque - The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) of Marinduque headed by PENR Officer Imelda M. Diaz in partnership with Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) represented by Environmental Management Specialist Rolando Z. Capistrano, turned over a biodegradable waste or bio-waste shredder funded by the latter to the Mogpog Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) represented by OIC-MENR Officer Clarita San Juan on January 10, 2018.

The bio-waste shredders will reduce the volume and size of biodegradable wastes for composting at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) to speed up the decomposition process.

This is in accordance to Section 32 of Republic Act 9003, otherwise known as the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 states that MRF shall be established in every barangay or cluster of barangays. The MRFs shall receive mixed waste for final sorting, segregation, composting and recycling. The residual wastes shall be transferred to a long-term storage or disposal facility or sanitary landfill.

The DENR through its Provincial Office and Environmental Management Bureau is providing technical assistance to the Local Government Units (LGUs) concern as part of Department's thrust and to ensure effective implementation of RA 9003.

A total of three (3) bio-waste shredders were already awarded to selected LGUs in the Province of Marinduque. The two (2) shredders were turned-over to LGUs of Gasan and Boac last May 19, 2017. ###
