DENR MARINDUQUE RESPONSE TO NATIONAL DISASTER CONSCIOUSNESS MONTH

As the number of man-made and natural disasters increases every year, the need to enhance public and individual awareness in disaster management, preparedness, and response is very essential.

Thus, for this year’s observance of the National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM) with the theme “Kahandaan at Pagtugon sa Sakuna, Tungkulin ng Bawat Isa”, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Marinduque in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) conducted an Information Education and Communication Campaign to its employees relative to the disaster preparedness programs of the government as well as the personal responsibility to mitigate and adapt the impacts of the calamities experienced by our country.

Engr. Rolando S. Josue, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (PDRRMO) served as resource speaker of the said activity conducted on July 18, 2016 at PENRO Office, Boac, Marinduque.

Engr. Josue started his lecture with the basic facts about the weather, weather forecasts and its importance. He also discussed the occurrence of natural hazards like tropical cyclone, flood, earthquake and landslides as well as some man-made hazards like mining. Likewise, current situation and global problems like climate change, El niño and La niña were also given emphasis in his presentation.

Afterwards, he discussed the safety measures and precautions that an individual must do in case of typhoon and other natural calamity.  He gave emphasis on the do’s and don’ts specially like taking selfies during the manifestation of disaster.

Lastly, he encouraged everyone to be vigilant from time to time because no one knows when disastrous event will strike. He stressed out that readiness and preparedness to crisis is everybody’s duty. ###
