PENRO MARINDUQUE IN ACTION: DOUBLE APPREHENSION

Mogpog, Marinduque- On January 12, 2019, at around 9:25 AM, Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer (PENRO) Imelda M. Diaz together with Forest Technician (FT) Michael Vencint Sualog,  FT John Andrew Magculang and Forest Ranger Randy Estrella while conducting site visit and aerial video documentation of mangrove forest plantation at Brgy. Ino, Mogpog, Marinduque, they heard a chainsaw operating in the area. Following where the sound of the chainsaw was coming from, the team proceeded and saw one (1) felled Mango (Mangifera indica) along the national road and immediately ordered the chainsaw operator to stop the cutting activity. Upon verification, they found out that the tree will be affected by road widening. However, the said chainsaw apprehended due to the absence of proof of registration.

Few minutes later, a concerned citizen informed PENRO Diaz via text messages of an on-going illegal cutting at Brgy. Nangka II, also in the Municipality of Mogpog. The team went to the area and found abandoned freshly-sawn Antipolo (Artocarpus blancoi) lumbers with a total volume of 219 board feet.

The PENRO requested the assistance of Philippine National Police (PNP) Mogpog, specifically in the hauling of apprehended forest products.

The apprehension of abandoned illegally-cut forest products are subject to Administrative Adjudication Proceedings for its final disposition pursuant to DENR Administrative Order No. 97-32 and PD 705.

With this incident, the DENR recognized the important role of the private citizen’s ad partner law enforcers in the success of our implementation of environment and natural resources (ENR) laws. This Office call for more active participation and vigilance of our community. mgpmaniquiz2019
